Police arrest 06 drug peddlers across South Kashmir

Srinagar, October 09: Continuing its sustained crackdown on the drug menace, J&K Police arrests 06 drug peddlers in separate NDPS cases in Anantnag & Kulgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

In the first instance, a police party from Police Station Dooru, during naka checking at Fidar Road, apprehended a person identified as Adil Rahman son of Abdul Rahman resident of Peti Khas, Verinag. During his personal search, approximately 07 grams of heroin was recovered from his possession. A case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Dooru, and investigation has been initiated. In another case, a police party from Police Station Dooru, during naka checking at Qamar, apprehended another person identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Bhat son of Abdul Salaam Bhat resident of Kapran. During his search, approximately 08 grams of heroin was recovered from his possession. Accordingly, FIR No. 155/2026 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Dooru, and investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, a police party from Police Station Anantnag, deployed on naka duty at NH-244 near Najigund, Anantnag, intercepted a person identified as Amir Hussain Sheikh son of Mohd Ramzan Sheikh resident of Donipawa. During his search, 10.76 grams of charas was recovered from his possession. Necessary legal proceedings have been initiated in the matter. In another case, a police party from Police Station Anantnag, during naka checking at Mehendi Kadal, intercepted a person identified as Muneeb Saleem Wani son of Mohammad Saleem Wani resident of Bangidar. During his search, 06 grams of charas was recovered from his possession. Necessary legal proceedings have been initiated in this case as well.

Moreover, a police party from Police Post Sangam intercepted a person identified as Urood Gul son of Gulzar Ahmad Sheikh resident of Bijbehara. During search, 6.30 grams of charas-like substance was recovered from his possession. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 291/2026 under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered, and further investigation has been taken up.

In Kulgam, a police Party of Police Post Mirbazar intercepted & apprehended a person identified as Dharm Veer son of Ram Autar, resident of Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, near DBZ Brick Kiln, Kachpora, and recovered 1.360 Kgs of charas powder and 11.02 grams of charas-like substance from his possession. Accordingly, FIR No. 244/2026 under Section 8/20 NDPS Act has been registered at PS Qazigund. Further investigation is underway.

Police reiterated its commitment to continuing the crackdown against drug trafficking and peddling. Sustained enforcement and preventive measures are being undertaken across the district to protect the youth and society from the menace of drugs.
