Srinagar, Oct 6: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has approved the provision of land for installation of mobile towers in 13 underserved areas across the Union Territory under the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF), Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said on Tuesday.
The areas identified for the telecom infrastructure include Uri, Tangmarg, Karnah, Kalakote, Kralpora, Basantgarh, Khour, Latti Marothi, Banihal, Pogal Paristan, Ramsoo and Qila Darhal.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister said the initiative is aimed at expanding high-speed telecom coverage across Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in remote and border areas.
The move is expected to strengthen connectivity in villages with limited telecom access and facilitate online education, e-governance services and emergency communication.
The initiative will also contribute towards bridging the digital divide by improving access to digital and communication services in underserved parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
