Budgam : Speaker, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and MLA Charar-i-Sharief, Abdul Rahim Rather, Saturday chaired a meeting to review arrangements for the forthcoming annual Urs of the revered 14th-century patron saint of Kashmir, Hazrat Sheikh-ul-Aalam Sheikh Noor-ud-Din Noorani (RA), scheduled to commence from October 7.
During the meeting, the Speaker emphasized the importance of comprehensive arrangements for the upcoming Urs, focusing on ensuring a smooth and peaceful experience for devotees. Key directives included the provision of adequate drinking water, with a call for uninterrupted supply and emergency water tankers in Charar-i-Sharief. The Speaker also stressed the necessity of consistent electricity supply and proper illumination of the shrine and surrounding areas throughout the event. Health and medical facilities were highlighted, with instructions for the deployment of medical teams, ambulances, and essential medicines to address potential emergencies. Additionally, the Speaker called for ration distribution to local residents, anticipating an influx of visitors during the celebrations. Cleanliness and sanitation were prioritized, with directives for sufficient sanitation staff, installation of toilets and dustbins, and regular waste management to maintain hygiene. The Speaker also mandated inspections of food establishments to ensure compliance with health standards and monitoring of prices to protect the interests of the public. Transport and traffic management were addressed, with a focus on providing adequate public transport, designated parking, and a coordinated traffic plan to facilitate smooth movement during the Urs. Security measures were also discussed, including the deployment of personnel for crowd management and the positioning of emergency response vehicles. The Speaker urged all departments to collaborate effectively and monitor arrangements closely, ensuring any issues are resolved promptly. A 24×7 control room was proposed to address grievances and provide assistance to devotees, with designated officials from various departments assigned to ensure continuous support. The meeting concluded with a reiteration of the need for all arrangements to be finalized well in advance to ensure the safety and comfort of attendees. Key officials from various departments and civil society were present to discuss these arrangements.
