Regional workshop on “Adoption, Implementation of ECSBC and ENS” begins in Srinagar
Srinagar : A two day regional workshop on “Adoption and Implementation of ECSBC and ENS”, organised by Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) Tuesday commenced in Srinagar.
The workshop was inaugurated by Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) Power Development Department, Ashwani Kumar.
The workshop is being attended by senior officials, experts and representatives from State Designated Agencies and concerned departments from various States and UTs of the northern region to deliberate on implementation of energy-efficient building codes and share experiences, challenges and best practices.
Addressing the gathering, the ACS emphasised the importance of energy efficiency and energy conservation in achieving sustainable development. He highlighted that conservation of energy is a collective responsibility requiring the active participation of all sections of society.
Ashwani Kumar stressed the need to adopt energy-efficient practices in homes, offices, industries and public institutions. He underlined the importance of creating greater public awareness regarding the judicious use of electricity and avoidance of energy wastage.
The ACS appreciated the role of BEE and J&K SDA in promoting energy conservation through awareness and capacity-building initiatives. He called for greater adoption of energy-efficient technologies and practices across different sectors.
Director General, BEE, Krushna Chandra Panigrahy, emphasised the importance of Centre-State collaboration, breaking institutional silos and strengthening communication for effective implementation of ECSBC. He also underlined the critical role of energy efficiency in strengthening India’s energy security and in achieving the country’s Net-Zero target by 2070.
Welcoming the dignitaries and participants, Sanjay Sharma, Chief Electrical Inspector and Head, SDA J&K, highlighted the enormous energy-saving potential of the building sector. He also elaborated the importance of effective implementation of ECSBC and ENS for maximising energy savings in the building sector. He briefed the participants on some of the key energy-sector reforms and initiatives being undertaken in J&K, and apprised the gathering of BEE-supported initiatives relating to energy conservation and e-cooking.
During the workshop, Pravatanalini Samal, Director, BEE and Dr. Abhishek Sharma, Director, BEE reviewed the progress of ECSBC implementation, check testing and market surveillance activities. The challenges being faced by State Designated Agencies in implementing energy-efficiency programmes were discussed, with participants sharing their experiences and deliberating on possible solutions, support mechanisms and strategies for strengthening implementation.
BEE reiterated its commitment to provide necessary technical assistance and support to States and UTs for effective adoption and implementation of ECSBC and other building energy-efficiency initiatives.
The workshop is expected to further strengthen the coordination among BEE, State Designated Agencies and concerned departments and facilitate more effective implementation of energy-efficiency measures in the building sector.
