Baramulla | September, 28: Police on Monday cracked a burglary case registered at Police Station Pattan by arresting a habitual offender involved in 14 previous theft cases and recovering a portion of the stolen cash.
In a statement issued here on Monday, Police said that on 25-09-2026, Police Station Pattan received a complaint from Mir Waheed S/O Mohd Ayoub Mir R/O Mamoosa, Pattan, stating therein that he runs a Khidmat Centre bearing Code No. JKBAR5691 at Mirpora, Mamoosa. The complainant had left the centre to offer Jumma prayers and, upon his return, found that an unknown person had entered the premises and stolen ₹83,000 in cash, along with the installed CCTV storage device. Accordingly, FIR No. 222/2026 under Sections 305 and 331(3) BNS was registered at Police Station Pattan and investigation was initiated.
During the course of investigation, police, with the assistance of technical inputs and the ICJS Portal, identified the suspect as Rameez Ahmad Naikoo S/O Gh. Mohammad Naikoo R/O Bhan, Kulgam. A police team was deputed to Kulgam, where the accused was apprehended. On his disclosure, ₹5,130 in cash was recovered from his residential house. Verification through ICJS and police records revealed the accused was previously involved in 14 theft-related cases across the Valley. Further investigation is in progress to recover the remaining stolen property.
