Srinagar Sept 28 : Srinagar Lok Sabha MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi has questioned Chief Minister Omar Abdullah over the implementation of the National Conference’s election promises, saying the party’s own MLAs were now having to fight to get those promises incorporated into an Assembly resolution.
In a post on X, Ruhullah said the situation was a measure of what he described as the government’s “betrayal”.
“The CM’s own MLAs now have to fight him to get their party’s election promises into a resolution. That is the measure of the Government’s betrayal,” he said.
Ruhullah also questioned the government’s position on Articles 370 and 35A, saying the issues had been clearly articulated when the National Conference sought votes.
“Articles 370 and 35A were clear enough when the NC wanted votes. Now colleagues asking for their inclusion are accused of falling into a ‘BJP trap’,” he said.
Questioning the Chief Minister’s position, Ruhullah said Omar had been elected to fight for the rights promised by the party.
“The CM was elected to fight for these rights. Who authorised him to decide which promises his colleagues are allowed to insist on?” he asked.
Ruhullah also sought an account of what followed the resolutions passed in 2000 and 2024, asking what concrete steps had been taken after their adoption.
“They keep invoking the 2000 and 2024 resolutions. The public deserves an account of what followed. What concrete steps were taken? What is the plan beyond mentioning them in another resolution?” he said.
The Srinagar MP further rejected the suggestion that the public had failed to understand the National Conference’s manifesto.
“Kashmiris do not need a lesson in English to understand the NC’s manifesto. They need an explanation for how far this government has strayed from it,” he said.
Ruhullah said the refusal of party colleagues and others to accept the Chief Minister’s explanations should not be construed as a failure to understand his position.
“Their refusal to accept the CM’s excuses is not a failure to understand him,” he said.
He ended his post with a direct message to the Chief Minister: “If the CM will not fight for his promises, he should at least stop fighting the people asking him to keep them.”
