Srinagar | September, 24: The Power Development Department (PDD) is enforcing six hours of daily forced power cuts in areas recording Aggregate Technical & Commercial (AT&C) losses exceeding 40 percent, officials said. Areas experiencing 15 to 40 percent AT&C losses face three hours of curtailment, while feeders with losses below 15 percent experience no power cuts.
In a written response to a question in the Legislative Assembly, the government stated, “JKPDD is presently enforcing Load Curtailment Programme based on the Loss level of the feeders with no curtailment on feeder having less than 15 percent losses, 3 hours for feeders with 15-40 percent losses and 6 hours curtailment on feeder with above 40 percent losses.”
Officials noted that feeders experiencing frequent interruptions, low voltage, or inadequate power supply are being actively monitored based on performance metrics, load conditions, and field reports. The situation is regularly reviewed during peak summer and winter demand periods, particularly across remote and hilly terrains where difficult weather affects supply reliability.
To address infrastructure bottlenecks, the PDD is executing Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) works to upgrade the distribution network. Measures include replacing worn-out conductors with AB cables, augmenting undersized lines, and upgrading overloaded transformers through RDSS and UT Capex funding.
