Sopore : Police on Thursday said that it has cracked a hit-and-run case at Chak Rody Khan, Sopore, by arresting the accused driver and seizing the vehicle involved in the accident within 24 hours of the incident.
In a statement issued here on Thursday, Police said that the accident occurred when a motorcycle bearing Registration No. JK09E-3415, carrying two persons, was hit by an unknown vehicle, following which the driver allegedly fled from the spot along with the vehicle. Both injured persons were immediately shifted to SDH Sopore for treatment. A case under FIR No. 240/2026 under Sections 281 and 125(a) BNS was registered and an investigation was immediately taken up. Police screened CCTV footage from the area and adjoining routes, besides utilizing technical assistance and other investigative leads to trace the vehicle. The offending vehicle was seized and the driver, identified as Arif Ahmad Dar S/O Abdul Aziz Dar R/O Gund Jageer, Bandipora, was arrested. Meanwhile, one of the injured persons, Haziq Ahmad Mir S/O Mohammad Maqbool Mir R/O Kehnoosa, Bandipora, later succumbed to his injuries at SKIMS Soura. Further investigation is underway, with appropriate legal provisions being incorporated following the victim’s death.
