Srinagar : Police on Thursday said that it has arrested five gamblers in Kulgam and seized stake money, mobile phones, and vehicles from their possession.
In a statement issued here on Thursday, Police said that a police party during naka checking at Nipora noticed five suspects allegedly engaged in gambling activities. On seeing the police party, they tried to flee from the spot but were apprehended tactfully. They have been identified as Irshad Ahmad Ganaie S/O Ab Rashid Ganaie R/O KP Road, Anantnag; Manzoor Ahmad Bhat S/O Gh Hassan Bhat R/O Monghall, Anantnag; Wahid Ahmad Mir S/O M Sultan Mir R/O Furrah; Gulzar Ahmad Ahanger S/O Ab Gani Ahanger R/O Vessu; and Mudassir Ahmad Parry S/O Mohd Shafi Parry R/O Nipora, Mirbazar.
During the proceedings, ₹4,020 in cash, six mobile phones, two vehicles, and one pack of playing cards were seized. Preliminary questioning further revealed that ₹6,000 had been transferred between three bank accounts in connection with the alleged gambling activity. Cognizance has been taken and investigation into the matter has been initiated. In its statement Police also reiterated its commitment to curb gambling and other unlawful activities and appealed people to refrain from such activities and report any such instances to the Police or Dial-112.
