Poonch, : Deputy Commissioner Poonch Tuesday chaired a meeting in the Conference Hall of the DC Office Complex to review the implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules- 2026 in the district.
The meeting was attended by ADC General Manager, DIC; Tehsildar (HQ), Divisional Forest Officer (Territorial); Chief Education Officer; Chief Agriculture Officer; Executive Engineer, Jal Shakti; Chief Executive Officer, Municipal Council and Divisional Officer Pollution Control Committee..
The meeting focused on strengthening the mechanism for scientific management, segregation, collection, transportation and disposal of solid waste in accordance with the provisions of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned departments and local authorities to ensure effective implementation of the rules and take coordinated measures for proper waste management and maintaining cleanliness in urban as well as rural areas.
He stressed the need for greater public awareness, strict monitoring and inter-departmental coordination to improve waste management practices and ensure a cleaner and healthier environment in the district.
The concerned officers briefed the chair on the existing arrangements and measures being undertaken in their respective jurisdictions for effective implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026.
