Srinagar, :The government has formulated four major road infrastructure projects involving an estimated cost of ₹323.41 crore for easing traffic congestion in Sopore town and improving connectivity along the key routes, including those serving the Sopore Fruit Mandi.
This was stated by Deputy Chief Minister, Surinder Kumar Choudhary, while replying to a question raised by MLA Sopore Irshad Rasool Kar during Question Hour in the Legislative Assembly Monday seeking details of a decongestion plan for Sopore town.
The Deputy Chief Minister informed the House that, with a view to decongest Sopore town, various road projects have been formulated on recommendations of the concerned MLA. He said that the government is currently looking for sources to fund these projects under the relevant plan or scheme.
Giving details, he stated that the proposals include upgradation/widening of Sopore–Mazbugh–Ladoora road at an estimated cost of ₹24,952.45 lakh (₹249.52 crore); upgradation of Sofi Akbar–Chankhan road at ₹1,012.11 lakh (₹10.12 crore); upgradation of Sopore–Bandipora road at ₹2,971.14 lakh (₹29.71 crore) and development/strengthening of Manzbugh–Ashpeer road at an earmarked cost of ₹3,405.70 lakh (₹34.06 crore).
The Deputy Chief Minister reiterated that the identified projects have already been formulated as part of the efforts to address the infrastructure requirements of Sopore town. Their approval under an appropriate plan or scheme would pave the way for further action towards their implementation, he added.
The proposed road works, once approved and executed, are envisaged to enhance the capacity and condition of key connecting routes and contribute to more efficient traffic movement in and around Sopore.
