SKUAST-K Holds Awareness Prog for Tribal, Marginal Farmers in G’bal

G’bal |Sept, 19:  Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Ganderbal, Directorate of Extension, SKUAST-Kashmir, organised an Awareness-cum-Input Distribution Programme at Bagpati, GundKangan, to strengthen the livelihoods and agricultural resilience of tribal and marginal farmers.

The programme was organised under the ICAR-TSP project, “Strengthening Livelihoods and Agricultural Resilience of Tribal and Marginal Farmers in Ganderbal District through Technology Driven Resource Packages,” with a focus on promoting improved agricultural technologies and providing need-based inputs to farming communities.

MLA Kangan Mian Meher Ali, who delivered the presidential address, stressed the importance of strengthening the agricultural sector through appropriate technologies, quality inputs and institutional support. He appreciated the efforts aimed at improving the livelihoods and resilience of tribal and marginal farmers.

SKUAST-K Vice Chancellor Prof Nazir Ahmad Ganai highlighted the University’s commitment to farmer-oriented extension programmes and effective dissemination of modern agricultural technologies at the grassroots level. He also stressed collaboration among ICAR, SKUAST-K and other stakeholders to enhance agricultural productivity and rural livelihoods.

Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension), ICAR, Prof Rajbir Singh, shared insights on strengthening agricultural extension and appreciated the efforts of SKUAST-K and KVK Ganderbal in implementing technology-driven interventions for tribal and marginal farmers. He also acknowledged SKUAST-K’s progress in agricultural education, research and extension.

Director Extension, SKUAST-K, Prof Raihana Habib Kanth, emphasised technology transfer and need-based support to farmers, particularly tribal and marginal communities, and highlighted the role of KVKs in taking scientific innovations from laboratories to the field.

Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Ganderbal, Dr Ajaz Ahmed Malik, delivered the welcome address and outlined the objectives of the programme.

A major highlight was the distribution of Technology Driven Resource Packages among beneficiaries to facilitate adoption of improved agricultural practices and strengthen the productive capacity and resilience of targeted farming communities.

Scientists, extension personnel, officials, farmers and beneficiaries from the target communities attended the programme.
