Srinagar| Sept, 19: This week saw a mix of major political, administrative, judicial, weather and security developments across Jammu and Kashmir, with key decisions and events shaping the public and institutional landscape.
1. CM Omar Attends Viksit Bharat Finance Conference: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah attended the two-day conference on “Financing India’s Journey towards Viksit Bharat” in New Delhi, organised by the Union Ministry of Finance. The deliberations focused on Centre-State financial cooperation and development priorities, including macroeconomic growth, agricultural transformation and renewable energy. The conference brought together Chief Ministers, Finance Ministers and senior officials from States and Union Territories.
2. J&K House In Amritsar Renovated: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah inaugurated the renovated Jammu & Kashmir House at Amritsar on Thursday. Upgraded at a cost of around ₹2.30 crore, the facility now has four guest rooms, a common lounge, dining area and kitchen. Located near major hospitals, the facility is expected to benefit patients and attendants from J&K, besides students, pilgrims and other visitors.
3. Rain, Snow Bring Early Winter Chill To Kashmir: Rain lashed several parts of Kashmir overnight, causing a sharp fall in temperatures, while fresh snowfall was recorded in higher reaches including Gurez, Zojila and upper areas near Sonamarg. Srinagar received 8.2 mm of rain, while Qazigund recorded 13.4 mm, Pahalgam 13 mm and Gulmarg 13.2 mm in the 24 hours ending Thursday.
4. Yash Paul Bourney Appointed J&K High Court Judge: The Centre has notified the appointment of judicial officer Yash Paul Bourney as a judge of the High Court of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh. The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended his appointment on September 10. Bourney, currently serving as a Member of the J&K Special Tribunal, joined the judicial service in December 1997.
5. Two Terrorists Killed In Udhampur Encounter: Two terrorists were killed in an encounter with joint security forces in Majalta area of Udhampur district, officials said. The operation began after suspicious movement was reported on Wednesday evening. A joint team of the Army, CRPF and J&K Police’s Special Operations Group continued searches in the area as the operation remained underway.
