Anantnag : Police on Friday said that it has arrested three drug peddlers in two separate cases and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.

In a statement issued here on Friday Police said that a team from Police Station Bijbehara apprehended Som Sarthi S/O Deepak Sarthi and Chotu Bariya S/O Kanhaiya Lal (both residents of Chhattisgarh, currently staying at Guree, Bijbehara), during naka checking at Darashikwa Crossing. During search operations 74.6 grams of a charas-like substance was recovered in stick form. A case under FIR No. 267/2026 under Sections 8/20 and 29 of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Bijbehara.

In a separate action, a police team from Police Post Bus Stand apprehended Aijaz Ahmad Wani S/O  Nazir Ahmad Wani R/O Anchidoora, at Bus Stand Crossing, recovering 10 grams of a charas-like substance from his possession. A case under FIR No. 316/2026 under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act was subsequently registered. In its statement Police reiterated its commitment to take strict legal action to achieve a drug-free Anantnag.
