Chennai|Sept,17: A 13-member media delegation from Srinagar, on a five-day media exposure visit to Chennai organised by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Srinagar, on Thursday visited the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) and Chennai Port and interacted with Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L. Murugan.
The delegation visited ICF, one of the major coach manufacturing units of Indian Railways, where journalists were briefed on the manufacturing of Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches and the engineering processes involved in modern train production.
Chief Workshop Engineer, LHB Division, Anupam Chauhan, and other technical officials briefed the delegation on manufacturing techniques, safety standards and the development of Vande Bharat train sets. The interaction also covered trials related to Vande Bharat freight trains and the evolution of indigenous rail manufacturing.
The journalists were also briefed about engineering adaptations incorporated in Vande Bharat train sets for operations in Jammu and Kashmir’s high-altitude and sub-zero conditions, including heating systems, anti-freeze water arrangements and climate-control measures.
The delegation subsequently visited Chennai Port, where officials explained the functioning of the maritime facility, including cargo handling, container operations, logistics and ongoing modernisation and digitisation initiatives.
The journalists toured the port’s berths, container yard, signalling station and cruise passenger terminal and were briefed on its role in facilitating domestic and international trade.
Later, the delegation attended an event at Doordarshan Kendra, Chennai, marking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years of public service, where MoS Information and Broadcasting L. Murugan was the chief guest.
Welcoming the journalists from Jammu and Kashmir to Tamil Nadu, Murugan spoke about the role of the media in connecting regional experiences with wider national developments. He also referred to the Jammu and Kashmir-Tamil Nadu partnership under the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat initiative.
The five-day exposure visit, organised by PIB Srinagar, concludes on Friday with further interaction sessions before the delegation returns to Srinagar.
