Srinagar | September, 17: The Ministry of Education (MoE) has proposed a comprehensive review of the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) framework following numerous representations from teachers, educational institutions, and stakeholders. The initiative aims to address practical difficulties faced by serving teachers required to acquire TET qualifications under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act 2009, while aligning with recent Supreme Court observations.
Official sources confirmed that the proposed review will focus on evaluating the existing eligibility criteria, establishing regular examination schedules at reasonable intervals, and resolving operational hurdles faced by in-service educators. The Ministry emphasized that broad consultations will be conducted with State Governments, UT Administrations, the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), and education experts. Officials added that the Centre will assess whether statutory amendments are required in the larger public interest to ensure a fair, transparent, and workable framework for teacher qualifications nationwide.
