MeT Predicts Improving Weather From September 18
Srinagar | September, 17: High-altitude areas across the Kashmir Valley received fresh snowfall on Thursday while widespread heavy rainfall lashed the plains, bringing down temperatures sharply across both divisions.
Reports confirmed light to moderate snowfall at Kabul Gali (4,167 meters), Zojila Pass, Zero Point near Sonamarg, and Apharwat Peak in Gulmarg. Down in the plains, heavy downpours hit Jammu, Udhampur, Srinagar, and south Kashmir, driving maximum temperatures several degrees below normal.
Gulmarg recorded the Valley’s lowest daytime temperature at 11.2°C, while Srinagar registered a maximum of 23.2°C. Weather officials stated that conditions are set to improve significantly, forecasting generally dry weather from September 18 to 25. “Farmers are advised to resume harvesting of apples and paddy, besides other agricultural operations, from September 18 as weather conditions are expected to improve,” officials said. However, authorities advised travelers heading toward high-altitude passes to exercise extreme caution due to gusty winds and slippery road conditions.
