Srinagar, Sept 17: Fresh snowfall was witnessed at Kabul Gali in north Kashmir’s Gurez Valley on Thursday, while widespread rain lashed Kashmir, with several areas of south Kashmir receiving heavy showers, officials said.

As per details collected by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Srinagar recorded 8.2 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours, while Qazigund, Pahalgam and Gulmarg received 13.4 mm, 13 mm and 13.2 mm, respectively.

Heavy rainfall was also recorded in parts of the Jammu division, with Udhampur receiving 117.8 mm, Jammu 112.9 mm and Katra 45.2 mm in the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, Kabul Gali, located at an altitude of around 4,167 metres, received light to moderate snowfall, covering the high-altitude pass and surrounding areas with a fresh layer of snow. The pass connects Tulail Valley in Gurez with the Mushkoh Valley towards the Drass sector of Ladakh.

The snowfall did not cause any major disruption, while travellers heading towards higher reaches were advised to exercise caution.

The weather activity also led to a drop in temperatures across the region, with chilly conditions prevailing in the higher reaches.—(KNO)
