Srinagar : Vivek Bali, the State President of the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) in Jammu and Kashmir, has voiced strong support for the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), highlighting its significance in promoting equality, justice, and uniformity in civil matters across India.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday Bali asserted that a common civil framework is essential for upholding the principle of “One Nation, Equal Rights and Equal Laws,” ensuring that all citizens receive equal legal protection regardless of their religion, caste, or community. Bali emphasizes that the UCC is fundamentally about ensuring equality before the law, particularly in areas such as marriage, divorce, inheritance, and adoption. He advocates for a legal framework that is fair and transparent, which would safeguard the rights of all individuals, especially women. He believes that a well-structured and constitutionally sound UCC can enhance gender justice, provide legal clarity, foster national integration, and reinforce individual rights. While acknowledging India’s rich diversity, Bali insists that civil laws must guarantee equal rights and opportunities for every citizen. He argues that respect for various traditions and cultures can coexist with the principle of equality before the law. He envisions a progressive and inclusive UCC that is developed through proper consultation and in alignment with constitutional values, thereby strengthening democratic principles and promoting justice for all. Bali calls on citizens to consider the UCC from a broader perspective of equality and constitutional rights, urging them to rise above religious or political divides. He reaffirms SBSP J&K’s dedication to initiatives that advance social justice, equality, women’s empowerment, and the welfare of all citizens.
