“Say No to Instant Gratification”: IGP Kashmir Cautions Students Against Drugs, Social Media Traps

Srinagar | September 15: Urging students to reject shortcuts and instant gratification, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Sujit Kumar, called on the youth to place complete trust in their parents, teachers, and coaches to build a resilient future. Speaking at an event organized by Tyndale Biscoe and Mallinson schools, the IGP cautioned youngsters against rising social menaces, including drug abuse, online betting, social media traps, and cyber fraud. Emphasizing the importance of discipline and moral strength, he advised students to resist easy temptations: “Follow the directions of your teacher, have faith in your teacher, have faith in your parents, and anything that comes very easily, say no to them. Any pleasure that is very, very easy to achieve, it will take you to the doors of hell.” He further warned of the pervasive dangers lurking online, noting that “a demon, a ghost, a jinn is roaming on social media, who will trap you in the net.”
Reflecting on the historical legacy of the host institution and the cultural fusion between the Shimla and Kashmir valleys, IGP Kumar highlighted the vital role of educators in safeguarding the region’s heritage and guiding the next generation. He cited IPS officer Neha Jain’s fortitude in Kashmir as a benchmark of character and urged graduating students to showcase the true strength and cultural richness of Kashmir across the nation. Reminding the youth of their vast potential, the IGP assured full support from the law enforcement agencies, stating: “Young people have all the capabilities, imagination and strength required to succeed, but needed to resist temptations that offer instant gratification,” adding that “Whenever you need J&K Police or Kashmir Police, we are with you, our team is with you.”
