23213 cases settled across UT of J&K
Srinagar| Sept. 12:Continuing its endeavor to promote access to justice through swift, cost-effective and amicable resolution of disputes, the J&K Legal Services Authority, under the patronage of Dr. Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati, Chief Justice, High Court of J&K and Ladakh and Patron-in-Chief, J&K Legal Services Authority and under the dynamic leadership of Justice Sanjeev Kumar, Executive Chairman, J&K Legal Services Authority and with the guidance of Justice Sanjay Dhar, Chairperson, High Court Legal Services Committee, organised the 3rd National Lok Adalat of the year 2026 across the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.
The 3rd National Lok Adalat, inaugurated by Dr. Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati, Chief Justice of the High Court of J&K and Ladakh, and Justice Sanjeev Kumar, Executive Chairman of the J&K Legal Services Authority, took place at the District Court Complex in Srinagar. This event was particularly significant as it marked the first National Lok Adalat under the new Chief Justice’s leadership. The inauguration included a ceremonial Guard of Honour and visits to various Lok Adalat Benches, where the dignitaries interacted with judicial officers, advocates, and litigants, appreciating the arrangements for the event. During the day-long proceedings, a total of 32,908 cases were addressed across 163 Benches, resulting in the amicable settlement of 23,213 cases, which involved a substantial compensation amount of Rs. 176,22,29,397. The cases covered a diverse range of issues, including Motor Accident Claims, civil and criminal disputes, and family matters. Dr. Justice Bhati expressed gratitude towards all participants for their contributions to the success of the Lok Adalat, while Justice Sanjeev Kumar highlighted the importance of Lok Adalats in providing a swift and amicable resolution to disputes, encouraging greater public engagement in such initiatives. Additionally, Justice Rajnesh Oswal inaugurated a National Lok Adalat at the District Court Complex in Jammu, where he was welcomed by local judicial officers. Shazia Tabasum, Member Secretary of the J&K Legal Services Authority, announced that the final National Lok Adalat of the year is scheduled for December 12, 2026, urging litigants to take advantage of this opportunity for case resolution.
