  • GIF to serve as regional incubation node for Neo-Innovative Enterprises
  • Mission YUVA aims to train, incubate and support 500 innovative enterprises across J&K by 2030

Srinagar :  NIT Srinagar, IIM Jammu’s YUVA Innovation Hub, and the Directorate of Employment of the Government of Jammu and Kashmir have established a tri-partite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing the startup and innovation ecosystem in the Union Territory.

The five-year agreement, signed at NIT Srinagar, incorporates the Greenovator Incubation Foundation (GIF) as a regional incubation node to support Neo-Innovative Enterprises in Kashmir. The MoU was formalized by key representatives from the involved institutions, including the Director of NIT Srinagar and the Chairperson of the Centre for Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Skill Development at IIM Jammu. The initiative is part of the Government of J&K’s Mission YUVA, which seeks to foster a vibrant entrepreneurial environment by training and supporting 500 Neo-Innovative Enterprises from 2025 to 2030. The YUVA Innovation Hub will act as the central body for this mission, providing essential services such as strategic direction, mentorship, and investor connections. Harvinder Singh, IAS, emphasized that this partnership will enhance the institutional framework necessary for nurturing innovative enterprises, ultimately aiming to create a sustainable entrepreneurship ecosystem in the region.

The collaboration will enable GIF at NIT Srinagar to identify and develop early-stage innovative enterprises, focusing on areas such as nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity. The MoU is expected to leverage NIT Srinagar’s technical resources to facilitate technology-driven entrepreneurship, connecting innovative ideas with necessary mentorship and market access. Additionally, selected startups will have the opportunity to receive seed funding of up to ₹6 lakh from the Government of J&K, which can be utilized for various developmental stages, including proof of concept and prototype development. This initiative represents a significant step towards bridging the gap between research, innovation, and commercialization in Jammu and Kashmir.
