Shopian : Police on Monday said that six tractors and a tipper have been seized for unauthorized extraction and transportation of minerals from different areas of the district.
In a statement issued here on Monday Police said that d0uring routine patrolling, a police party from Police Station Zainapora intercepted and seized one tipper and four tractors while they were allegedly engaged in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals without valid royalty documents. A case under FIR No. 116/2026 has been registered at Police Station Zainapora under relevant provisions of law and investigations have also been initiated.
In a similar action, a police party from Police Station Shopian intercepted and seized two tractors involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals without royalty documents. In this regard, a case under FIR No. 186/2026 under relevant provisions of law has been registered at Police Station Shopian and further investigation has been initiated. In its statement Police reiterated its firm commitment to protect the district’s natural resources and take strict legal action against individuals involved in illegal mining activities, appealing people therein to cooperate and report any unlawful activities, with the assurance that the identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
