Bandipora: The Jammu and Kashmir Teachers Forum held a meeting at Town Hall Hajin in Bandipora district on Sunday, bringing together teachers and representatives from different parts of Jammu and Kashmir to discuss issues related to the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) and the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS).
The meeting was presided over by Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) President Wajahat Durani. EJAC Chief Spokesperson Mir Bashir Ahmad, J&K Teachers Forum President, district-level office-bearers and other members of the organisation were also present.
A large number of teachers from various districts across the Kashmir division attended the meeting.
Speaking to the media, Wajahat Durani and Mir Bashir Ahmad said the gathering provided a platform to discuss the difficulties being faced by teachers and to deliberate on the long-standing demands concerning TET and the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme.
The forum also welcomed the recent statement of Cabinet minister for Education, Health & Medical Education and Social Welfare Sakina Itoo regarding the TET issue. Itoo had announced that she would introduce a bill in the upcoming session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly to address the matter.
Wajahat Durani and Mir Bashir Ahmad termed the proposed move a positive development, saying it could help address the long-pending concerns of teachers. They also assured the government of their cooperation and support in finding a lasting solution to the issues raised by the teaching community.
