NEW DELHI : The 89th edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle was organised across the country on Sunday, with the theme “NashaMuktYuva for Viksit Bharat”, promoting fitness and a substance-free lifestyle among young people.

In Surat, Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi joined participants in taking the NashaMukt pledge before a cycling ride.

Mandaviya said cycling promotes fitness while also contributing to the fight against substance abuse, reducing pollution and conserving fuel. He urged people to make cycling part of their daily routine.

More than 5 million young people participated at over 25,000 locations nationwide, according to the organisers.

In New Delhi, around 1,000 students, youth and fitness enthusiasts participated in the programme at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium as part of a special Teachers’ Day edition honouring teachers and coaches.

The initiative is organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in collaboration with the Cycling Federation of India, Raahgiri Foundation and MY Bharat, with weekly participation across SAI and Khelo India centres nationwide.
