Poonch : In a significant initiative to accelerate the ongoing construction of the Akhnoor–Poonch National Highway (NH-144A), Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar Sharma undertook an extensive field inspection of the road stretch from Sanjiot to Poonch, falling within the jurisdiction of Poonch District.
He was accompanied by the officers from the District Administration and representatives from the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and other concerned agencies.
The comprehensive field visit covered various locations where land acquisition, compensation and other administrative issues were resolved.
The functionaries from BRO briefed the Deputy Commissioner and the district administration regarding the construction status, site constraints and locations where progress was being affected due to pending land acquisition and compensation matters.
The Deputy Commissioner reviewed the issues at each site and interacted with the affected landowners and other stakeholders. A large number of pending land acquisition and compensation-related cases were resolved on the spot, providing much-needed relief to the concerned landowners and simultaneously facilitating the handing over of obstruction-free stretches to the executing agencies.
The field visit was particularly effective as all concerned administrative officers and field staff came fully prepared with relevant land records, acquisition files, compensation documents and other supporting records. This enabled the officers to examine the cases at the site itself, verify the available records, address the concerns of stakeholders and take appropriate decisions without unnecessary delay.
The Deputy Commissioner directed all concerned officers to maintain close coordination and adopt a proactive, time-bound approach towards resolving the remaining cases so that no avoidable administrative issue becomes a bottleneck in the construction of NH-144A.
