Sopore : Police on Saturday said it has seized an oil tanker in Sopore for carrying approximately 5,000 litres of petrol without valid documents. The driver of the tanker has also been arrested.
In a statement issued here on Saturday Police said that during a naka checking at Iqbal Market under the jurisdiction of Police Post Bus Stand, an oil tanker bearing Registration No. JK04G-0068 was intercepted and upon inspection, approximately 5,000 litres of petrol was found inside. The driver, identified as Bilal Ahmad Malla, S/O Bashir Ahmad Malla R/O Markundal, Sumbal, failed to produce valid documents or lawful authorization for its possession and transportation. Preliminary investigations indicate the petrol was intended for unauthorized sale for wrongful gain. A case under FIR No. 220/2026 under Sections 3/7 of the Essential Commodities Act has been registered at Police Station Sopore. The accused has been arrested, and both the tanker and petrol have been seized as further investigation continues to trace the source, destination, and key linkages.
