Srinagar : The Farmer-Scientist Interaction Meeting held at Kokarnag under the Mera Resham Mera Abhimaan (MRMA) 2.0 Campaign aimed to enhance collaboration among farmers, scientists, and implementing agencies to foster sustainable growth in the sericulture sector.
Key participants included Gh. Nabi Mir, Additional Director of the Sericulture Development Department, and scientists from the Central Silk Board, who engaged with farmers on various aspects of sericulture production. During the meeting, farmers raised concerns regarding the entire production chain, including silkworm seed production, rearing practices, mulberry leaf availability, cocoon production, and post-cocoon activities. The technical team provided guidance on scientific practices to improve productivity, quality, and profitability. Additionally, farmers were informed about various government schemes and support mechanisms designed to enhance the sericulture sector, with a focus on optimizing the use of government interventions and technical assistance. A notable outcome of the meeting was the farmers’ enthusiasm for adopting sericulture as a community-based activity. They expressed a desire to establish and strengthen Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to collaboratively engage in sericulture activities, access resources and schemes, and share technologies, ultimately aiming to achieve greater economic benefits and promote a sustainable production system through the effective utilization of sericulture by-products and waste.
