Centre Appoints Chief Justices for Eight High Courts

Justice Dr. Pushpendra Singh Bhati to lead J&K and Ladakh High Court.

New Delhi, Sep 6 : The Union Law Ministry has issued formal notifications appointing Chief Justices to eight High Courts across the country, including the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court.

Justice Dr. Pushpendra Singh Bhati has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court, according to the notification.

The other seven judges appointed as Chief Justices including Justice Valluri Kameswar Rao (Patna High Court), Justice Ravindra V. Ghuge (Calcutta High Court), Justice Sanjay Kumar Agrawal (Rajasthan High Court), Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi (Bombay High Court), Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra (Punjab & Haryana High Court), Justice Krushna Ram Mohapatra (Chhattisgarh High Court), and Justice Alpesh Yeshvant Kogje (Madhya Pradesh High Court).

Notably, The appointments have been made in exercise of the powers conferred by Article 217 of the Constitution, read with Article 222, which empowers the President to appoint Chief Justices of High Courts after consultation with the Chief Justice of India..
