Srinagar, Sept 5: The higher reaches of Kashmir witnessed the season’s first snowfall on Saturday, with fresh snow reported from Kaobal Gali in the Tulail area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district and the Gumri-Zojila sector in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, marking a visible shift towards colder weather conditions in the high-altitude areas.
Snowfall covered mountain peaks and upper reaches with a fresh white layer, transforming the landscape across the Gurez-Tulail and Sonamarg-Zojila belts.
In Tulail, fresh snowfall was recorded at Kaobal Gali, a high-altitude area known for experiencing snowfall due to its elevation and mountainous terrain. The snowfall was visible across the upper reaches, where temperatures remain significantly lower than in the plains.
The higher reaches of Gumri and Zojila, located along the Sonamarg-Zojila axis in Ganderbal district, also received fresh snow, giving the mountainous landscape a distinctly wintry appearance.
The development comes as temperatures have started to dip in the higher reaches. The Zojila sector, an important route connecting Kashmir with Ladakh, is likely to remain under close watch as changing weather conditions could affect road movement if snowfall intensifies.
The fresh snowfall has added to the scenic character of the mountainous terrain while signalling the arrival of colder conditions in Kashmir’s upper reaches.
