Srinagar, Sep 3: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday denied any association with the man seen in a viral video allegedly molesting a woman during a protest at Hari Singh High Street here, urging people not to draw conclusions about his affiliation without verification.
In a media statement, the BJP said it had cross-checked the information with multiple sources and found that the individual seen in the video was not associated with the party.
The party said large public gatherings often attract unidentified and unaffiliated individuals and that their presence at a protest could not, by itself, be construed as an association with the organisers or the BJP.
The BJP said efforts were underway to identify the individual involved in the alleged incident as well as the portals that published the woman’s face.
It said the matter should be dealt with in accordance with law once the persons concerned were identified.
The party also condemned the alleged incident and appealed to people to refrain from circulating unverified information or falsely attributing an individual’s actions to the BJP.
The video has circulated widely on social media, with the alleged incident drawing public attention.
