Jammu, Sep 2: Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau on Wednesday trapped and arrested a Junior Assistant posted in the office of Assistant Commissioner (General), Jammu for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 15,000.

In a statement, the CBK said the accused has been identified as Ajay Kumar, son of Late Ram Murti, resident of Village Gango Chack, Gajansoo, Jammu.

According to ACB, a written complaint was received that the official had demanded Rs 20,000 from the complainant for issuance of a Marriage Certificate under the Special Marriage Act, 1954 and later agreed to take Rs 15,000 after negotiation.

Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached ACB for legal action. After discreet verification established prima facie case, FIR No. 11/2026 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) was registered at Police Station ACB Central J&K Jammu.

A trap team was constituted which laid a successful trap and caught the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting Rs 15,000 from the complainant. The bribe money was recovered from his possession in presence of independent witnesses and he was arrested on the spot.

Searches were later conducted at the residential premises of the accused in presence of an Executive Magistrate and independent witnesses.

Further investigation is going on, ACB said.
