CU Kashmir celebrates National Sports Day-2026

G’bal | August, 29: Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir) celebrated National Sports Day-2026 with enthusiasm and active participation of athletes, students, faculty members and university officials at the Tulmulla campus here. The programme was organised by the Department of Physical Education, in line with the national theme “Khelega Bharat, Jeetega Bharat.” The celebration highlighted the importance of sports, physical fitness, discipline, teamwork and the holistic development of students. National Sports Day Pledge was administered, with participants reaffirming their commitment to fitness, sportsmanship and maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle.
Dr. Nisar Ahmad Mir, Registrar, Director Sports, Dr. Kaukab Azeem, Dr. Jehrul Islam, Dean Students’ Welfare, Mr. Abdul Rasheed, Dy Registrar, and other teaching and staff members were present.
In his welcome Dr. Kaukab Azeem, highlighted the University’s efforts towards promoting sports and physical activity among students.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Nisar Ahmad Mir, expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. A. Ravinder Nath for providing students with wide-ranging opportunities not only in sports but also in various curricular and co-curricular activities. He emphasised that such opportunities are essential for the overall development of students and appreciated the efforts of the University in creating a supportive environment for young talent. He stressed the importance of physical fitness among university students, observing that fitness is an integral part of a healthy and productive student life.
Athletes Felicitated for Sporting Achievements
Highlight of the celebration was the felicitation of athletes and sports participants for their dedication and achievements. Participants representing the University in AIU Winter Sports, AIU Wushu, AIU Powerlifting and North Zone Football were felicitated in recognition of their sporting accomplishments and contribution to bringing laurels to the University. Students and staff who participated in the University’s inter-departmental tournaments and competitions in football, athletics, table tennis, volleyball, carrom and chess were also recognised for their enthusiastic participation and sporting spirit.
Certificates Distributed to Participants
Certificates were distributed to participants of various programmes and activities organised by the Department. These included the Har Ghar Tiranga Programme, Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan 2026, and activities such as essay writing, painting, poster making, reel making, sketch making and Nukkad Natak, besides participation in volleyball and other activities. Certificates were also presented to participants of the Viksit Bharat Yuva Connect Programme, recognising their involvement in initiatives aimed at encouraging youth participation and engagement.
