Cleanliness drive, lecture on waste management held under Viksit Bharat Yuva Connect
Srinagar : The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar recently hosted a day-long event as part of the Viksit Bharat Yuva Connect Programme, which included a cleanliness drive and a distinguished lecture on waste management.
The initiative aimed to foster environmental responsibility, sustainability, leadership, innovation, and youth engagement in nation-building. The cleanliness drive commenced at Fountain Park, emphasizing the theme “Clean Campus. Stronger Nation,” and was attended by the Director, Prof. Anurag Mishra, who underscored the significance of a clean campus in cultivating a responsible society and the role of youth-led initiatives in realizing the vision of Viksit Bharat. Registrar Prof. Atikur Rehman highlighted the institute’s commitment to sustainability and active student participation, while the involvement of NCC and NSS cadets reinforced the collective effort towards maintaining a healthy campus environment. Dr. Jitendra Gurjar, the Nodal Officer for the programme, articulated the initiative’s goal of connecting youth with the broader vision of a developed India through impactful social and environmental activities. He emphasized that the cleanliness drive was not just about physical cleanliness but also about instilling a sense of responsibility among students. The event also featured a Distinguished Lecture by Prof. Om Prakash from NIT Patna, who discussed the critical aspects of waste management, including responsible waste generation, segregation, recycling, and scientific disposal. He stressed the necessity of adopting sustainable practices at both institutional and community levels to mitigate environmental pollution and enhance resource conservation. Overall, the programme aimed to inspire students to actively contribute to building a developed, sustainable, and environmentally responsible nation, aligning with the overarching theme of “Youth for a Developed India.”
