Srinagar, Aug 26: Amid chants of Darood-o-Azkar, thousands of devotees thronged the revered Hazratbal Shrine in Srinagar for night-long prayers on the eve of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW).
Reports reaching GNS said that from late evening, devotees including men, women, elderly and youth from different parts of the Valley started arriving at the shrine to take part in the congregational prayers marking the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
The shrine premises reverberated with recitation of Quranic verses, Naat Khwani and praises of the Prophet (SAW) throughout the night. Devotees offered special prayers, seeking peace and forgiveness.
After the pre-dawn prayers, the sacred relic (Moi-e-Muqaddas) of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was displayed for devotees. The devotees had a glimpse of the holy relic amid tears of devotion and slogans of devotion, creating a deeply spiritual atmosphere.
The administration and J&K Waqf Board had made elaborate arrangements for the devotees including lighting, sanitation, drinking water, transport and medical facilities.
Similar night-long prayers were also held at other major shrines and mosques across Jammu and Kashmir.
Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW) is celebrated every year on 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal with great religious fervour. (GNS)
