Baramulla, August 26: A leopard was safely rescued by a joint team of wildlife and security personnel after it became trapped in a wire at Bandi village in Uri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
According to officials, the animal was spotted by local residents, who promptly alerted the Wildlife Department. Acting swiftly, a joint team comprising personnel from the Wildlife Department, Police, Forest Protection Force and Army reached the location and initiated a rescue operation.
Following sustained efforts, the team successfully freed the leopard from the wire without causing further harm to the animal.
Wildlife officials said the leopard appeared to be unwell and had suffered injuries during the entanglement. It was subsequently taken into the custody of the department for medical assessment and observation.
Officials said the leopard’s future release will be decided after a thorough evaluation of its health, with the animal likely to be released at a suitable and safe wildlife habitat once it fully recovers.
The successful rescue operation was welcomed by locals, who appreciated the timely intervention of the concerned departments.
