Srinagar, Aug 24: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday chaired a review meeting of the School Education Department at the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar to assess measures aimed at strengthening the school education system across Jammu and Kashmir.
The meeting focused on improving the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) at the higher secondary level and reviewed the phased plan to upgrade 714 High Schools into K-12 composite schools.
Discussions covered the requirements for teaching and non-teaching staff, infrastructure development, laboratories and other essential facilities needed for the upgradation.
The proposed transformation of schools is expected to ensure continuity in education, expand access to Classes XI and XII, and reduce dropout rates at the critical transition stage after Class 10, particularly in underserved and remote areas.
The Chief Minister emphasised the importance of strengthening educational infrastructure and ensuring that students across the Union Territory have access to quality higher secondary education closer to their homes.
