Srinagar : Deputy Commissioner Srinagar and President, Zila Sainik Welfare Board, AkshayLabrooSaturday laid the foundation stone for an additional accommodation block at Zila Sainik Bhawan in the presence of Director Sainik Welfare Department J&K, Brigadier Pankaj Chib, SM, VSM.
The proposed facility will augment accommodation and welfare services for ex-servicemen, war widows, serving personnel and their families from across Kashmir Division.
Labroo said the project would strengthen welfare infrastructure and provide better support to armed forces families, particularly wards of ex-servicemen and martyrs who stay in Srinagar for educational purposes.
He also called for incorporating a Skill Development Training Centre in the new block to provide skill-based training to wards of ex-servicemen and martyrs, besides local youth, to improve their employability and self-reliance.
The DC appreciated the officers and departments involved in developing facilities at Zila Sainik Bhawan, including the parking shed and solarisation works.
He also noted that a 100-bed hostel for wards of ex-servicemen and martyrs has been completed at Peerbagh and urged the Zila Sainik Welfare Board to operationalise the facility at the earliest.
Senior civil and departmental officers, ex-servicemen, war widows, veterans and family members attended the event.
