Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) caught and arrested a Junior Building Inspector attached to Ward No. 28 of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) while red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a local citizen.
According to an official statement the action followed a verified written complaint alleging that the official was intentionally stalling ongoing property construction and harassing the property owner despite valid building permits being issued by the competent authority.
After establishing the merit of the allegations through a discreet preliminary inquiry, the ACB registered FIR No. 11/2026 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, at Police Station ACB Srinagar. A specialized trap team executed the operation, arresting the accused, identified as Gazala Akhter, on the spot and recovering the marked bribe currency in the presence of independent witnesses. Further investigation into the official’s administrative dealings remains ongoing.
