Meets scores of public, individual delegations at party headquarters Nawa-e-Subha

Srinagar, 18 Aug: The  Jammu and Kashmir National Conference General Secretary Haji Ali Muhammad Sagar Tuesday said that the public representative government  led by CM Omar Abdullah is working to improve livelihoods and economic conditions while advancing the welfare of common people, artisans, craftsmen, traders and those associated with the tourism sector.

Sagar said this while interacting with various public delegations, traders’ associations and representatives of tourism associations. MLA Hazratbal Salman Ali Sagar was also present on the occasion. The delegations apprised Sagar of various issues concerning their respective areas and sectors.

Sagar assured the delegations that no effort would be spared in resolving public grievances and ensuring the provision of basic amenities. He also contacted the concerned authorities on the spot and directed them to take immediate measures for the redressal of several issues.

Sagar said that these sections had faced continuous difficulties over the past several years, particularly after 2019, and that artisans, craftsmen, traders and people associated with tourism had been severely affected by various decisions and policies. He said that even after the implementation of GST, the sector continued to face several challenges, compelling a large section of people dependent on handicrafts and traditional skills to abandon their ancestral professions.

He said the National Conference would continue its efforts to revive these traditional sectors, create more employment opportunities and promote economic activity.

Meanwhile, representatives of the Khonakhun New Mamta Hoteliers Association also met Haji Ali Mohammad Sagar and apprised him of the issues confronting the area. Sagar said that tourism and infrastructure development in Khonakhun and adjoining areas was set to receive a major boost. He said that ₹1.52 crore was being spent on various developmental works, including the construction and improvement of footpaths, bridges, protection walls and other essential infrastructure.

He said these developmental initiatives would give the area a new and attractive look, significantly improve basic amenities and are expected to increase tourist footfall. This, he said, would not only promote local tourism but also provide further impetus to local businesses, trade and employment opportunities.

Representatives of the Hoteliers Association congratulated Haji Ali Mohammad Sagar and expressed gratitude for the efforts being made towards the development of the area and promotion of tourism.
