Srinagar Records 32°C, Jammu 32.5°C; Gulmarg Emerges as Coolest at 21.4°C
Srinagar : Jammu and Kashmir is bracing for light to moderate rainfall and thundershowers across numerous locations between August 16 and 19, with the Meteorological Centre Srinagar issuing warnings for brief, intense downpours that could trigger flash floods, landslides, and mudslides.
A MeT department spokesman said that Heavy to intense showers are expected in select districts of the Jammu division and isolated parts of Kashmir, particularly during early morning and afternoon hours, raising risks of severe waterlogging in low-lying areas. Scattered rainfall is projected to continue from August 20 to 22 during early morning and late afternoon hours. Over the past 24 hours, Kulgam recorded the highest rainfall at 55.5 mm, followed by Pahalgam (29.6 mm) and Katra (20.8 mm). Despite the precipitation, temperatures across the region remained elevated. Srinagar logged a maximum of 32.0°C (2.6°C above normal) and a minimum of 18.5°C, while Qazigund recorded 30.4°C and Kupwara registered 31.8°C. Pahalgam recorded a high of 25.6°C, whereas Gulmarg remained the coolest location with a maximum of 21.4°C and a minimum of 11.6°C. In the Jammu division, the city recorded 32.5°C, Katra logged 28.6°C, Banihal reached 29.7°C, and Bhaderwah recorded 27.8°C. Muzaffarabad recorded the highest temperature in the broader region at 37.6°C, followed by Mirpur at 35.0°C. Weather authorities have urged residents, particularly those in vulnerable and low-lying zones, to exercise extreme caution and strictly follow safety advisories.
