Srinagar : The University of Kashmir’s Special Cell, under the Department of Students’ Welfare, on Friday concluded a 10-day workshop titled ‘HEAR A MILLION,’ focused on empowering students with hearing disabilities.
Held from August 4 to 14 in collaboration with the Voluntary Medicare Society and EnAble India, the workshop aimed to provide a platform for specially-abled students to showcase their talents and resilience while promoting awareness of deaf culture, Indian sign language, and the rights of persons with disabilities. During the valedictory session, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nilofer Khan emphasized the importance of creating an inclusive educational environment, asserting that all students should have equal opportunities to learn and participate. Dean DSW Prof. Seema Singh highlighted the workshop as a reflection of the University’s commitment to inclusivity, while Prof. Masooda Yasin from the Voluntary Medicare Society stressed the need for meaningful participation and equal opportunities for persons with disabilities. The workshop included interactive sessions, motivational talks, recreational activities, talent exhibitions, and skill-development workshops aimed at fostering confidence and self-expression among participants. Approximately 50 individuals, including specially-abled students, university volunteers, faculty, and experts, engaged in collaborative learning and activities.
