Jammu : In a major push toward modernizing financial operations and boosting security, the Jammu Division of Northern Railway has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the State Bank of India (SBI) to extend direct cash pickup facilities to 18 additional stations, taking the total coverage to 67.

Officials said that expanded arrangement allows SBI to securely collect and transport station earnings, eliminating the operational risks of prolonged cash retention, theft, and misappropriation. By delegating cash logistics to the bank, the initiative drastically reduces the administrative burden on frontline railway staff, enabling station managers and booking personnel to redirect their focus toward passenger care.

Highlighting the operational milestone, the Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Jammu, emphasized that the initiative will strengthen both passenger service and revenue security. “Passenger safety and revenue security are our top priorities. With this new MoU with the State Bank of India, not only will the cash handling process become more secure and transparent, but the workload of our frontline staff will also reduce,” he said, adding that the system provides much-needed relief to remote stations. Reaffirming the division’s broader vision for financial governance, he stated, “Our aim is to implement a modern and secure financial system at every station in Jammu Division,” marking a decisive step toward safer, more systematic revenue management.
