Inter-Department Football Tourney Concludes at KU

Srinagar : The Inter-Department Football Tournament, organised by the Directorate of Physical Education and Sports, University of Kashmir (KU) concluded on Thursday at the University’s Ground “B”, marking the culmination of a vibrant student-centric sporting activity.

The tournament witnessed an overwhelming response, with over 19 teams representing various departments and satellite campuses of the University. The tournament was organised as part of the annual sports calendar of the Directorate of Physical Education and Sports, formulated earlier this year. The grand finale witnessed an exciting match  between the Department of Management Studies and the Department of Computer Sciences. In a closely contested match, the Department of Management Studies emerged victorious with a 1–0 win. Mukaram scored the decisive goal in the 20th minute, helping his team clinch the championship trophy.  The concluding ceremony was presided over by Director, Physical Education and Sports, Prof. Raies Qadri.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Raies Qadri congratulated both teams for exhibiting a great performance and precision throughout the tournament. He assured the players of every possible support from the Directorate in terms of coaching, training and sports equipment.

He further informed that outstanding performers from the tournament would be shortlisted for participation in the forthcoming Inter-College Football Tournament, providing them an opportunity to represent Varsity’s Post Graduate team. Head, Department of Management Studies, Prof. Mushtaq Siddiqi, appreciated the Directorate for organising such student-centric sporting initiatives and said that regular sports activities play an important role in the holistic development of students.

Prof. Raies Qadri and Prof. Mushtaq Siddiqi distributed trophies and medals among the winning and runner-up teams. The tournament was coordinated by Assistant Director, Dr. Basharat Ali, while the proceedings of the concluding ceremony were conducted by Football Coach , Sajid Yousuf Dar.
