Srinagar, Aug 13: The Meteorological Centre (MeT), Srinagar, has forecast widespread rain and thundershowers across Jammu and Kashmir over the coming week, with the possibility of brief intense showers and heavy rainfall in some districts between August 16 and 19.
According to the MeT forecast, a spell of rain and thundershowers is expected at many places across Jammu and Kashmir on August 13, with brief intense showers likely in a few districts during the afternoon hours.
On August 14, rain and thundershowers are expected across many areas of the Jammu Division during the early morning and morning hours, followed by another spell across many parts of J&K in the afternoon.
For August 15, the weather office has predicted light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many places during late night and early morning hours, with another brief spell likely during the afternoon.
Between August 16 and 19, several spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected across many places, while a few districts may witness heavy rainfall or brief intense showers during the early morning and afternoon hours.
From August 20 to 22, light rain and thundershowers are likely at scattered places across the Union Territory.
The MeT has also issued an advisory, warning of the possibility of heavy rain and brief intense showers in a few districts of the Jammu Division and one or two districts of the Kashmir Division during August 16–19.
It cautioned that torrential rain or intense showers may trigger flash floods, landslides, mudslides and waterlogging in low-lying areas, advising residents and travellers to remain alert and follow official advisories.
