DJMC IUST convenes BoS meeting for PG programs

Pulwama : The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (DJMC), Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), convened a second Board of Studies (BoS) meeting for its post-graduate programmes on Wednesday.

The meeting was chaired by Prof. Afroz Ahmad Bisati, Dean, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, IUST, and convened by Dr. Rabia Noor, Head, DJMC.

Among the key items on the agenda were the proposed two-year postgraduate programme under the new nomenclature, Mass Communication with AI, and the one-year M.A. programme in Journalism and Mass Communication. The proposed programmes seek to respond to the rapidly evolving media ecosystem, marked by technological advancements, digital transformation and the growing integration of Artificial Intelligence into media practices.

The members deliberated upon the academic framework and curricular aspects of the department’s postgraduate programmes, with a focus on strengthening and updating the programmes in line with the changing academic and professional landscape of media studies.

They also discussed the programme structures, curriculum and other academic components before making recommendations as per the prescribed academic and statutory processes.

The Board comprised of internal as well as external members. The external experts included Prof. Aaliya Ahmad, Head, Media Education Research Centre, University of Kashmir, Dr. Suhail Ahmad, Head, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Government College for Women, Cluster University Srinagar, and Dr. Imran Muzaffar Parray, Head, Department of Media Studies, Government Boys Degree College, Anantnag. The internal members included Prof. Munejah Khan, Head, Department of English Language and Literature, IUST, and Dr. Muzaffar Ali Malla, Head, Department of Philosophy, IUST, besides faculty members of DJMC including Dr.MonisaQadiri, Associate Professor, and Dr. Mujeeb Liyakat, Assistant Professor.

The meeting was also attended by other faculty members of the department including Dr.Sayar Ahmad Mir and Dr.Haifaa Mohammad, besides Dr. Mohammad Jebran Khan, Assistant Registrar, Office of Dean of Academic Affairs, and Rohana Khurshid, Assistant Registrar, Examination Section, IUST.
