Wet spells threaten vulnerable hilly areas through mid-August
Srinagar, Jammu: The Meteorological Centre has issued a weather advisory warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall across parts of the Jammu division, cautioning residents against potential flash floods, landslides, and mudslides. While light to moderate rain is expected across the Union Territory, districts in Jammu could face intense downpours, following severe rainfall that saw Kathua record 156 mm, Jammu 79 mm, Katra 71 mm, and Samba 55 mm.
The prevailing wet spell is expected to continue in a subdued form through August 16, followed by another intensified rainy spell between August 17 and 19. Temperatures have fluctuated across the region, with Srinagar recording a high of 33°C (3 degrees above normal) and Jammu recording 31.2°C. Authorities have advised citizens living near flood plains and landslide-prone slopes to remain on high alert.
