Major boost to water supply, sanitation as CM Omar unveils ₹140-cr projects

Udhampur: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday laid the foundation stones for two major infrastructure projects worth over ₹140 crore aimed at strengthening drinking water supply and sewerage management in Udhampur and Reasi districts.
The projects include the ₹124.19-crore Augmentation of Water Supply Scheme for Udhampur town under AMRUT 2.0 and the ₹16.33-crore Used Water Management Project, including a 3.0 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), for Reasi under SBM 2.0.
Addressing a gathering, the Chief Minister reiterated his government’s commitment to ensuring safe, adequate and sustainable drinking water for every citizen. He also stressed the need for water conservation, rainwater harvesting and construction of check dams to improve groundwater recharge. Omar said the projects would significantly improve urban infrastructure, sanitation and quality of life while meeting the growing needs of the two districts.
Minister for Jal Shakti Javed Ahmed Rana, MLAs Pawan Kumar Gupta and Kuldeep Raj Dubey, senior officials and local residents were present on the occasion.
