MeT Issues Warning for Flash Floods and Landslides Between August 9–11
Srinagar: Widespread heavy rainfall and high-speed winds struck parts of Kashmir on Thursday, bringing down temperatures but triggering fatal accidents and widespread agricultural damage.
Reports said that in the Keran sector of Kupwara district, a shepherd identified as Shahmeer Ahmad Khatana lost his life after being struck by lightning during heavy downpours, while a 10 to 20-minute hailstorm devastated up to 60% of standing apple crops across key belts in Shopian district including Kachdora, Dangam, and Kaprin.
The Meteorological Centre in Srinagar has issued an advisory forecasting continued light to moderate showers, warning that intense rainfall between August 9 and 11 could trigger flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas across the Union Territory.
