Valley’s architects, engineers and planners unite for a safer, sustainable built future

Srinagar | Aug, 04:  Khyber Cement on Tuesday hosted the inaugural Khyber Cement Architectural Conclave (KCAC) 2026 at Ramada Encore, Raj Bagh, uniting prominent architects, urban planners, conservationists, engineers, and former policymakers from Jammu and Kashmir.

The event served as a knowledge platform aimed at addressing the unique opportunities and challenges in the region’s construction landscape, focusing on critical questions regarding infrastructure safety, environmental responsibility, and the preservation of architectural identity amidst urban expansion. A key feature of the Conclave was a panel discussion on “Sustainability and Responsible Construction,” which included insights from experts such as architect Umar Farooq, architectural historian Dr. Sameer Hamdani, and heritage conservationist M. Saleem Beg. The discussion, moderated by journalist Masood Hussain, delved into essential topics like structural resilience, climate-responsive design, and the importance of maintaining Jammu and Kashmir’s architectural heritage in the face of rapid urbanization. Umar Tramboo, Director of Corporate & Strategy at Khyber Cement, emphasized the company’s commitment to enhancing the built environment in Jammu and Kashmir, advocating for a future that balances safety, sustainability, and cultural identity. The Conclave is seen as a significant step towards fostering dialogue among stakeholders in the construction sector, with the aim of promoting better building practices and inspiring informed discussions about the evolving urban landscape. Wasim Ahmed Khan, Chief of Sales & Customer Relations at Khyber Cement, highlighted the initiative’s goal of facilitating open conversations about the challenges faced by the construction industry, indicating that the Conclave is intended to be an ongoing annual forum that adapts to the industry’s needs. The KCAC 2026 marks a pivotal moment in Khyber Cement’s broader commitment to the development of Jammu and Kashmir, complementing its support for various community initiatives by investing in professional dialogue and knowledge sharing among those involved in shaping the region’s built environment. As Jammu and Kashmir experiences rapid urban transformation, the quality of this growth will hinge on both robust materials and innovative ideas, positioning Khyber Cement as a leader in this critical conversation.
